Instructions

  • Ensure the staircase substrate is stable, solid, and properly fixed. The surface must be clean, dry, and free from dust, grease, wax, or loose particles. Repair cracks and level irregularities before starting.
  • If applying over tiles, verify that all tiles are firmly bonded. Lightly sand glossy surfaces to improve mechanical adhesion and remove all dust thoroughly.
  • Apply the bonding primer evenly with a roller or brush on all surfaces, including steps, risers, and edges. The primer promotes optimal adhesion between the substrate and the microcement system. Allow it to dry completely, typically 2 to 4 hours depending on environmental conditions.
  • Prepare the fine grain mortar with precise water dosage. The required water proportion is 30 to 35 percent of the powder weight. This corresponds to:
    • 3.0 to 3.5 liters of clean water for 10 kg of fine grain mortar.
    • 1.5 to 1.75 liters of clean water for 5 kg of mortar.
    • 300 to 350 milliliters of clean water for 1 kg of mortar.
      Accurate measurement is essential. Excess water can reduce mechanical strength and increase the risk of cracking, while insufficient water can make the mortar difficult to spread and affect adhesion.
  • Always pour the measured clean water into a mixing bucket first. If color is desired, mix the selected pigment thoroughly into the water before adding the mortar powder. This ensures uniform color distribution across all steps.
  • Gradually add the fine grain mortar powder into the water while mixing with a low-speed electric mixer operating at approximately 400 to 600 rpm. Mix for 2 to 3 minutes until a smooth, homogeneous, lump-free paste is obtained.
  • Allow the mixture to rest for about 1 minute, then remix briefly for 30 seconds before application. Do not add extra water after mixing, as this can compromise strength and create color variations.
  • Apply the first coat of fine grain mortar using a stainless steel trowel. Spread a thin and even layer of approximately 1 mm thickness on each step and riser. Pay particular attention to edges and corners to ensure full coverage.
  • Allow the first coat to dry for 6 to 8 hours depending on temperature and humidity levels.
  • Once dry, sand lightly using sandpaper with grain 120 to 180 to remove imperfections and improve intercoat adhesion. Remove all dust carefully with a vacuum and clean cloth.
  • Prepare a second batch of mortar using exactly the same water ratio of 30 to 35 percent of the powder weight. Maintaining consistent water dosage is crucial to ensure uniform color and structural integrity across all staircase elements.
  • Apply the second coat in a thin layer of approximately 1 mm thickness. Use controlled trowel movements to achieve a uniform decorative effect. Avoid excessive thickness to reduce drying time and minimize the risk of cracking.
  • Allow the second coat to dry completely, typically 12 to 24 hours depending on environmental conditions.
  • Sand the fully dried surface with fine sandpaper (grain 180 to 220) to obtain a smooth and refined finish. Remove all dust thoroughly before continuing.
  • Apply the pore filler evenly using a roller or flexible trowel. This step seals micro-pores, improves surface smoothness, and enhances resistance to moisture and stains. Allow it to dry for 4 to 6 hours. Light sanding may be required after drying.
  • Apply the first coat of microcement varnish using a clean microfiber roller. Spread evenly on all steps and risers, avoiding drips and accumulation on edges.
  • Allow the first varnish coat to dry for 4 to 6 hours. Lightly sand with very fine sandpaper (grain 220 to 320) to promote proper adhesion between coats. Remove all dust carefully.
  • Apply a second coat of microcement varnish to ensure full protection against abrasion and daily wear. For heavily used staircases, a third coat is recommended to maximize durability.
  • Avoid foot traffic for at least 24 to 48 hours after the final varnish application. Full mechanical resistance is typically achieved after 5 to 7 days. Avoid placing heavy objects on the stairs during this curing period.
  • Clean tools immediately after use with water before the material hardens.
  • Store all kit components in tightly sealed containers in a dry place, protected from extreme temperatures, to maintain product quality and long-term performance.
